Origin
The craft never needed saving. It needed a market.
For seventy-odd years the story told about this work has been a rescue story. Dying arts. Vanishing traditions. Artisans to be preserved, the way you preserve fruit. It has always been the wrong story, and it has always paid badly.
The skill never went anywhere. The demand was never allowed to reach it. Between the woman stitching a rilli in Umerkot and the person in Chicago who would happily pay what it is worth sat four middlemen, a wholesale price, and a border drawn in 1947 by people who had never seen either of them.
What a House is
Every seller here is a startup incubated through Jugnuu, and on this platform we call it a House. A House owns its name, its founders, its pricing and its standards. We do not rebrand its work, blend it into a generic catalog, or hide who made what. When you buy a quilt, the House that stitched it is on the page, on the cart line and on the receipt.
What we do and don't do
Karkhana runs the shopfront: one catalog, one cart, one checkout, one payment in US dollars. The Houses run the making and the shipping. Each order is recorded with a clear breakdown of what is owed to each House, and those payouts are settled with the Houses directly.
Nothing here is dropshipped, nothing is warehoused in the States, and nothing is sold on the strength of being exotic. It's good work, fairly priced, finally within reach.
